Index of Spotlights:

[Spotlight Concept #2] Lyssa's Realm
[Spotlight Concept #3] Melandru's Realm
[Spotlight Concept #4] Improve the Challenge of PvE
[Spotlight Concept #5] Improving and Expanding PvP
[Spotlight Concept #6] Expansion and Evolution of the PvE world (newest)
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Hello everyone.
This is an introduction for you all to something new coming to Sardelac: Spotlight Concepts.
...What?
The Spotlight part, well, it means highlighting something in particular. Singling something out and making everyone look at it.
And the Concept? Well, most people on this forum must know the difference between what we call a small, often less detailed/developed idea or suggestion... (not that they're bad at all! Simple is good!) ... and a larger, more detailed/developed concept.
We have the stickied Index of Ideas up at the top of the forum. That highlights many things that we might call ideas or suggestions.
And we have Ken Dei's Concept Class Listing, which highlights all the profession concepts.
What about all the other concepts? Well, some of those we might call concepts are listed in the Index of Ideas... but why not do something extra? Why not put the spotlight on a particular, and often popular concept from time to time and get big discussion and community contributions going?
So here it is. Spotlight Concepts.
When?
It is undecided as to what the time pattern for having these might be, but we have to think about how many large, popular concepts there actually are that we can keep up and not run out of. It could be weekly, bi-weekly, monthly... or all over the place. So for now, let's say, we just do them when good concepts to use 'show themselves'.
I will take suggestions via PMs for concepts, though their use cannot be guaranteed. There is also no guarantee as to whether the concept chosen will be my own that I have thought of, or someone else's
How?
The Spotlight Concepts will be stickied threads. The first posts of these threads will contain a brief summary of the concept, and then leave everything else open to discussion and contributions from the community. The original posts will in no situation provide the whole concept. The aim is for the community to expand and draw out the details of each concept together, and everyone is free to give their own ideas and suggestions within.
In each Spotlight Concept, we take a particular 'topic', for example having realms for each of the other three gods, but we start on a blank canvas, no matter how many threads have gone before on the same subject. We may refer to those threads, but I want these Spotlight Concepts to start afresh when they are created to that the community can create and expand the concepts together.
When it is time for a new Spotlight Concept, the old one will simply be unstuck.
Why?
As stated earlier, to highlight popular concepts. And we are not just highlighting for the community - I want these to highlight for the developers the whole community's ideas on a particular concept for the improvement/expansion of the game.
Firstly?
The first three that I have planned for the next few weeks (err... or months?) are 'Realms of the Gods' for each of the three goddesses that lack them in Guild Wars - i.e. Melandru, Lyssa and Dwayna's equivalents to the Fissure of Woe and the Underworld.
After that... who knows? We will see. Oh, and I'll begin the first of these tomorrow.
If anybody has any feedback on this, or wants to discuss anything in particular about the Spotlight Concepts, this thread is the place to do so.
- Symeon

The original poster of the concept will be listed I'm sure, and will they be the ones allowed to say what their final verdict is on the class? THEN let Anet or whatever see it?
I like the idea though

Ok, I think I caused some confusion in my description, and I can see why.
When I used the word 'concept', I meant it as I stated near the start - simply what we have started to call a more detailed, developed, and perhaps more imaginative idea in a thread, thus making it not so easy to call it just an 'idea' anymore.
But in these Spotlight Concepts, I want the community to start on a blank canvas, and build/develop the concept together - no matter how many times it has been brought up before. For example, I know there have been other threads on realms for the other three gods, and though we may refer to those, I don't want the entire concept to have already been created, otherwise the community really can't contribute much more to it.
In other words, in my description it might have appeared I was talking about using a 'concept' that has already been created by a member of this forum in a thread, and I'm sorry for that. What I meant is that yes, this involves 'concepts', but not ones already created - we start afresh, and the community creates the 'concept' together.
In these 'Spotlight Concepts', we're highlighting a specific 'topic' such as having realms for the other gods, but then the community's ideas create and expand the 'concept'.
I hope that sorts out the confusion, and I might edit the original description just to make it a bit clearer.
Cheers.
Oh, and since I'm starting the first one later today, if there's any particular one you'd like me to do first (Melandru, Lyssa, Dwayna?) then just say it!

Although there are threads that may have covered some of the concepts we will be rolling out, these should not be thought of as "original threads," or in any way affiliated with the stickied one. We will likely be rolling out some ideas in the future that have never been discussed before, after all.
Keep in mind ANet reads our forums, and it would certainly be easier for them to check our stickies on a regular basis than to monitor the loose threads constantly.
You can bring up ideas that were presented in similar threads, but for the most part we are leaving the concepts very broad so that there is a lot to fill in. Basically, go wild. Gush your brains all over the place.

So basicly this will be a function for the community to come together and "Discuss in Detail", different "Topics" of popular (your) choosing.
I like the idea of a centerallized discussion about significant and important topics, I hope the moderators will closely oversee these discussions though, and help promote logical conclusions rather than popular "blindness", as well as cut out petty flames and immaturity. But just because alot of people talk about it (Petition for Role Playing Districts) doesn't mean Anet will care.
If this is going to be a headline discussion, I hope that mindless yay or nays, ignorant flames, and off topic discussion will be erased that way we can compile a productive "Spotlight" on whatever the topic is.

This just crossed my mind as I made my first comment on the first spotlight, these will quickly take up alot of room on the Suggestion forums.
After 5 or 6 of these, they will likely take up the first half of the listed topics in the suggestion forums. Right now it isn't a problem, but in the future, perhaps this should be seperated and filed in a seperate forum just for Spotlight topics, that way a dozen spotlight topics woln't overshadow every page of the Suggestion Forum.

There will never be two Spotlight Concepts stickied at the same time - as soon as there is a new one, the old one will be unstickied and the title edited. So basically, it will be like the ones that have been unstickied are normal threads, and there will be a section in the Index of Ideas listing the Spotlight Concept threads.

Are we allowed to suggest a spotlight?
Judging from the 400+ replies in "create a skill!" thread, how about...
"Balancing and creating skills"

This happening anytime soon or did I completely miss the whole thing? If so, why is it still stickied?
